HIPAA is the Health Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. This act was passed to ensure that your privileged healthcare information is only shared with you and/or people whom you have designated to have access to this information.
In dentistry, this involves demographic information including, but not limited to your social security number, address and phone number.
Dentistry is not regulated as stringently under HIPAA as the medical field. For your protection, however, our office and staff have taken part in HIPAA training and modifications so that your information is as secure as possible.
We never share your information with anyone without your authorization. We will not leave any messages regarding your treatment with other people at your home or on your answering machine/voicemail unless you have given us permission to do so. Our office layout, treatment rooms, front desk position, and computer screens provide further protection of your privacy.
If you have concerns or questions while in our office, please share them with the doctors or staff and we will make every effort to address them to your satisfaction.
